  • Fowler's 21 boosts North past Grants Pass

  • Jesse Fowler combined some timely buzzer-beaters with a solid offensive showing to lead the North Medford boys basketball team to a big Southern Oregon Conference victory.
    Fowler scored a season-high 21 points as the Black Tornado downed visiting Grants Pass 55-36 on Saturday night.
    The 6-foot-4 senior forward hit a long 3-pointer at the end of the first half and tipped in a shot as time expired in the third quarter. He made 7-of-9 shots in the game.
    North Medford, which lost to Klamath Union on the road Friday, improved to 5-2 and moved into sole possession of second, a half game ahead of the Pelicans and Roseburg.
    The Cavemen (3-3 SOC) scored the game's first point on a free throw by Casey Stewart before North Medford reeled off nine straight points to take control.
    Grants Pass made just 2-of-13 shots from the floor in the first half. Obie Strickler led the Cavemen with 16 points.
    Kacy Carter had 12 points and 13 rebounds for North.

    SOUTH MEDFORD 78, ASHLAND 64 -- At Ashland, South Medford's Adam Decker drained six 3-pointers and scored 29 points as the Panthers remained unbeaten in SOC play.
    Tenth-ranked South Medford (13-2, 7-0 SOC) was only up by three points early in the fourth quarter before pulling away behind a full-court press. Decker and James Wightman had seven points each in the final period, while Travis DeManby added six.
    Bryn Ritchie, Wightman and DeManby all finished with 13 points.
    James Werbin scored 20 points and Elijah Jordan 14 for Ashland (1-13, 0-7).

    CRATER 70, EAGLE POINT 68 -- At Eagle Point, Matt Brown connected for the game-winner with five seconds remaining on a 12-foot jumper in the key.
    With the game tied at 68, Eagle Point had possession with less than a minute left in the game, but the Eagles turned the ball over on a backdoor cut with 23 seconds to go.
    The Comets worked the clock down for Brown's final shot.
    Crater's Mike Jacobs led all scorers with 24 points, while Brown added 17.
    For Eagle Point, 6-6 junior Phil Garrett scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

    Mark Chocktoot led the Pelicans with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds.

    Dolinda Meeker and Ericka Brosterhous scored 15 points each to lead the fourth-ranked Black Tornado. Ashlee Giles added five steals, five assists and five rebounds for North, which shot 26-of-48 from the field.
    The Cavers were lead by Kaci Williams' eight points.
