  • Bettye Franklin
    — Elizabeth Bettye Franklin, 87, of Medford, passed away Aug. 14, 2003. Private entombment will be in Alpine Cemetery, Alpine, CA, next to her husband, Harold Franklin.
    Bettye was a member of Foothills Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Foothills Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2727 Springbrook Road, Medford 97504.
    Bettye is survived by sons, Ron Franklin of Medford, and Frank Franklin of Everett, WA; daughters, Lela Burgess of Sutherlin, OR and Charlotte Williams of New Ringo PA; eighteen grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

    Dorothy Rhoda Smith
    — Dorothy Smith, 79, of Central Point, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at home. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the family home. Rev. Bob Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church will preside.
    Memorial contributions can be made to Access, an organization dedicated to helping the needy and hungry, at P.O. Box 4666, Medford, OR. 97501.
    Dorothy was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Wichita Falls, TX. She married Glen Smith, Sept. 27, 1941 in Walters, OK.
    Dorothy loved to fish and took great delight in out-fishing Glen. She was a prolific home-canner who canned the most beautiful fruit and veggies, most from her own garden.
    She was a card shark (who never cheated!) and an avid bowler.
    She loved nothing better than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren She and Glen traveled all over the United States and Canada as well as Greece, England, New Zealand, Tahiti, Samoa, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
    She is survived by her husband Glen of Central Point and children Larry of Alton, IL, Dan of Des Moines, IA, Marvin of Missoula, MT, Randy of Portland, OR, mother Margurette Greer of Lumberton, Tx; sister, Margurette Jones of Lumberton, TX; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

    Edward Joseph Walker
    — A celebration of the life of Edward Joseph Walker will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6, 2003, at his son and daughter-in-law&
    39;s home.
    Mr. Walker, 79, of Medford, died (Sunday Aug. 17, 2003) at Medford Rehabilitation, Medford.
    Memorial contributions may be made to: Youth for Christ, 400 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, Or. 97504.
    He was born on Sept. 1, 1923 in Newark, NJ. He moved to Medford in 1950 from Portland, OR. On Dec. 12, 1991 in Medford he married Pauline "Polly" Ogle, who survives.
    Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman.
    He worked as a baker in Portland and Medford, He worked at Timber Products, Med. Ply and Co-Gap. He owned E.J. Walker Landscaping of Medford.
    Mr. Walker was a member of the National Roller Hockey Assoc., the Eagles, Elks Lodge and the Free Methodist Church. He was a youth director of the Free Methodist Church.
    He enjoyed roller hockey, tennis, weight lifting and dancing.
    In addition to his wife survivors include; sons, E. Robert Walker of Medford, Dennis J. Walker, of McMinneville, and step-son, Richard Ogle, of Medford; daughters, Donna Casey, of Roseburg, and step-daughter, Sheila Ogle, of Medford; 13 grandchildren, Kris Stevens, Corey Stevens, Rob Walker, Randy Walker, Matt Walker, Wayne McAnnally (Medford), Dennis Walker, Kimberly Walker, Kathy Miller, of Roseburg, Teresa Reed, Aberdeen, WA., Lisa Elbert, Allison Walker, and Jackie Bancomb; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Blanche Walker, a son, Dave McAnnally, and — granddaughter, Anita Ann McAnnally.
    Edward Patterson II
    — Edward Patterson II, 77, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 2003) in Medford. No service is planned.
    Mr. Patterson was born on Sept. 21, 1926 in Oakland, CA, to Edward Patterson I and Rose (Weidlein) Patterson.
    On Aug. 17, 1973 in Sonoma, CA he married Mildred (Weaver) Patterson.
    He attended Berkeley High School, in Berkeley Calif.
    Mr. Patterson served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945.
    He worked as a painting contractor.
    Mr. Patterson was an avid fly fisherman, and a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.
    Survivors in addition to his wife, Mildred, include; daughters, Carol Curtis, Rebecca A. Ramsey, and Teresa E. Kisanuki; sons, Edward Patterson III, and James R. Ayer; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
    Jane Williams
    — Jane Williams, longtime resident of the Rogue Valley, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Fish Lake, Oregon. She was 73.
    A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m., at Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd.
    Jane was born July 2, 1929 in Silver City, New Mexico to Wilford and Eva Wright. She was married to Ralph Williams in October 1960, and moved to the Rogue Valley that year.
    She is survived by her children Suzanne Knudson, Greg Knudson and Bart Knudson of Medford, and Charlotte Denton and Laura Cumiford of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, and brother James Wright. Jane had 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
    Jane was a retired registered nurse and very active in her sorority.
    She enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family.

    Ronald Bruce Coots
    — Ron Coots, 51, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
    A celebration of life will be held at — p.m. Sat., Aug. 23, 2003, at his home on the Coots 5 acres.
    In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Candice Jolene Coots college fund, in care of any Washington Mutual Branch.
    Ron was born Oct. 14, 1951 in Bakersfield, CA. to Ellis and Lucy Kendrick Coots of Eagle Point. He was married on Feb. 20, 1982 in Huntington Beach, CA, to Victoria Espinoza, who survives. He and his family moved here from Long Beach 14 years ago.
    Ron was the owner of "Ron&
    39;s Recovery and Collection Service" in Southern Oregon for 13 years.
    He enjoyed fishing the Rogue, golfing, flying small aircraft and was a long time member of Credit Professional International Inc.
    He is survived by his wife; daughter, Candice; a brother, Larry; his sister, Vicci Ewen and her husband John, all of Eagle Point. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Richard Ewen.
    Ron will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was dearly loved! Arrangements: Conger Morris Central Point Chapel.
    Shirley A. Whaley
    — Shirley A. Whaley, 69, died Thursday (August 7, 2003) in Las Vegas, NV.
    Mrs. Whaley was born on July 5, 1934 in Medford, OR. Daughter of Lloyd and Elda Damon. She grew up in Lake Creek with 7 brothers and sisters.
    She attended Lake Creek school until the 5th grade, then attended Eagle Point schools where she graduated.
    On January 2,1971, she married Fred Whaley. In 1986 they moved to Las Vegas where she enjoyed her dog, Clyde, and was a dedicated race fan of Dale Earnhardt. Survivors include, her husband, Fred Whaley of Las Vegas, a son, Bill Morris of Anchorage, Ak, a daughter, Jerri Morris, of Eagle Point, and a stepson, Rick Whaley of Las Vegas. 2 brothers, Bob Damon of Eagle Point, and Jim Damon of Central Point. 4 sisters, Lee Maxie of Las Vegas, Lillian Meyer of Eagle Point, Joann Campbell of Phoenix, and Dorothy Waddell of Eagle Point, and — grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Damon.
    A service will be held for family and friends at — p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Walch Memorial Wayside (covered bridge) in Lake Creek.
    Sidney E. Ainsworth
    — The memorial service for Sidney E. Ainsworth will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003, at the Ashland First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastors Don Baldrica and Dwayne Robinson.
    Mr. Ainsworth, 75, of Medford, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.
    Mr. Ainsworth was born at Murphy, Oregon, the son of Gladys and Ralph Ainsworth. He was reared in Murphy and served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. In 1953, he graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law and joined Sam Davis in a law practice in Ashland. He retired in 1993.
    On April 14, 1946 at Grants Pass, Oregon he married Carolyn Marie Benedict who survives. They were later divorced.
    On July 12, 1981 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada he married Janet Parsons who survives.
    Sid was very active in the Ashland community. He helped create the Southern Oregon College Foundation and was one of five founders of the Rogue Valley Manor. He was an active supporter of the Britt Festival in Jacksonville, the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, the Boy Scouts of America, the Medford Gospel Mission and Ducks Unlimited.
    Mr. Ainsworth was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he served as exalted ruler. He was a member of the Ashland First Baptist Church.
    Mr. Ainsworth enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling, gardening, and construction. He was a loving husband, father and devoted grandfather.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are: his son, Sydney Bruce Ainsworth and his wife Gloria of Hawi, Hawaii; his daughters Nonda Donovan and her husband Bill of Davis, CA., and Lynda Forderer and her husband Tom of Medford, OR; his son James Parsons of Beaverton, Oregon; his daughter Kate Stoller and her husband Greg of Washougal, WA; two brothers Ralph Ainsworth and his wife Elaine of Medford, OR. and Dale Ainsworth and his wife Dody of Phoenix, OR.; one sister Louise Fuller and her husband Orville of Grants Pass, OR; and five grandchildren, Scott Donovan, Amy Donovan, Megan Donovan, Lauren Forderer, and Marin Stoller.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, 125 West Jackson Street, Medford, Oregon 97501, the Boy Scouts of American, Crater Lake Council, 3039 Hanley Road, Central Point, OR 97502 or to Mercy Flights, 3650 Biddle Road, Medford, OR 97504.
