EAGLE POINT — Oregon State Police troopers are still trying to sort out a chaotic scene in which two men fled their car after crashing Tuesday along Highway 62 just north of Eagle Point.
The identities of the men were not released Wednesday, pending the completion of an investigation, OSP Senior Trooper Bill Matson said.
The men were arrested on warrants before being taken to Providence Medford Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries suffered when their Suzuki left the road and rolled onto its side.
"We're still right in the middle of it," Matson said. "All I can say right now is that the crash is the least of what happened out there."
He did say that one of the men was arrested by an off-duty Jackson County Sheriff's deputy in a field a few hundred yards away from the crash.
The other man fled several miles from the scene and briefly hid out in Eagle Point Community Bible Church at 27 South Shasta Avenue. He left the church and was arrested by OSP troopers and a Jackson County K-9 deputy.
Traffic slowed to a crawl near the scene as OSP troopers investigated the crash alongside crews from Jackson County Fire District 3's Eagle Point station.
"We are definitely anticipating bring additional charges against these individuals," Matson said. "This case should be wrapped up by early (this morning)."
