  • Chains are required for all vehicles traveling over the Siskiyou Pass, where it is snowing hard and continuously, and wrecks have closed Interstate 5 northbound in California.
The chain requirement was enacted shortly after 2:30 p.m. today. Oregon State Police troopers will work on Interstate 5 to ensure motorists chain up.
They are working closely with authorities in California to monitor traffic and winter weather.
The California Department of Transportation reports that northbound traffic on Interstate 5 is being held 10 miles north of Redding because of heavy snow and accidents. Accidents have caused at least two closures just north of the Siskiyou-Shasta county line.
We'll post more details as they're available.
