EAGLE POINT — Eagle Point took advantage of walks and errors to take a 5-0 lead after two innings en route to a 6-1 win in the nonleague softball opener for both teams on Thursday.
"Anytime you can get a win over North, that's a good win," said Eagle Point coach Keith Williams.
Eagle Point pitcher Carly Stephens held the Black Tornado to three hits in the first four innings and struck out seven for the game. Stephens also had two hits and two RBIs.
"She allowed four more hits in the next three innings," said Williams. "But she did a really nice job for us."
Jen Fernandes contributed three hits, a triple and an RBI for the Eagles (1-0). Katie Jollife had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.
North was playing without junior pitcher Taylor Schmidt. Jenna Stevens led the Black Tornado with two hits and a double.
