WHITE CITY — Jeremy Cheney and Colton Cochran combined for a no-hitter and Cascade Christian put recent struggles aside with a 10-0 victory in six innings over Bandon on Friday in a Sunset League game at VA Dom.
The Challengers (6-7, 2-2 Sunset) had lost six in a row but Wes Litton was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Josh Artale was also 2-for-3 for Cascade Christian, which had 10 hits as a team.
Cheney had seven strikeouts in four innings of work and also added two RBIs.
"They played well," Cascade Christian coach Paul Sha said of his team. "In the past couple games, we've had miscues and mental errors, and I think we overcame a lot of those. We made big strides today."
Despite being no-hit, Bandon threatened in the second and sixth innings. The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs after two walks and a hit batter in the second and had runners on first and second in the sixth but were unable to capitalize on either occasion.
Cheney recorded a strikeout to end the second and Litton helped turn a key double play in the sixth.
The Challengers' big inning came in the third with four runs. Daniel Kinney walked, stole second and Litton singled. Both scored on a misplayed ball in right field hit by Brandon Hauser, who later scored on Cheney's ground out to short.
Jordan Banks singled later in the inning and scored on Ryan Pech's base hit.
The Challengers continue Sunset play on Tuesday against Reedsport.
