BONANZA — Sophomore Morgan Martin posted a Class 2A state-best time in the 800-meters to highlight a big team performance by St. Mary's at the Bonanza Twilight track and field meet Friday.
The Crusader boys won the team title, while the girls took second against 15 other schools. The St. Mary's boys finished with 86 points. The Chiloquin girls won with 138 points to 101 for the Crusaders.
Martin and Chase Farthing in the boys pole vault were St. Mary's only individual winners. Martin won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 22.87 seconds.
Farthing was victorious in the pole vault with an effort of 12-feet-7 inches. Sean Igelman finished second in the pole vault for the Crusaders with a lifetime best of 11-6.
Sophomore Joe Delgado finished second in the 800 (2:10.43) and ran a leg on both St. Mary's relay teams, which finished second.
The Crusader 4x400 relay posted a season-best time of 3:50.15. Other runners on the team were Jeff Reeder, Andrew Larson and Bay Gross.
The St. Mary's 4x100 runner-up team (Reeder, Brock Cory, Leif Bowlin and Delgado) registered a time of 47.66.
Larson also finished third in the 800 (2:13.99) and fourth in the 1,500 (4:49.52)
The Crusader girls 4x400 relay team placed second, while the 4x100 relay took third. Both teams had the same lineup of Martin, McKenzie Krieser, Hanna Heycke and Rebecca Tribelhorn.
The 4x400 ran a season-best time of 4:15.49. The 4x100 was clocked at 53.81.
The Crusader girls got second-places from Anna McCreedy in the pole vault (7-6), Hannah Picknell in the discus (86-6) and Kira Heycke in the 3,000 (12:16.62).
Emily Reeder finished third in the 3,000 (12:30.03), while Krieser took third in the 100 (13.33) and 200 (27.87).
Jessica Clement finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.5), Emily Volk took fourth in the javelin (102-10) and Tribelhorn was fourth in the 800 (2:33.99).
District 5 Baseball
BONANZA 11, ST. MARY'S 4 — At Bonanza, Paul Hume had a good day at the plate but wasn't as effective on the mound as St. Mary's suffered its first league loss.
The Crusaders made seven errors that helped Bonanza to a league victory.
The game was played as a make-up for Tuesday's contest that was postponed because of rain.
Hume went 4-for-4 and scored one run to pace St. Mary's 12-hit attack. Andrew King contributed three hits and two RBIs, while Mike Brimball and Tyler Peterson added two hits each for the Crusaders (6-2, 3-1 Dist. 5).
Matt Blanton went the distance on the mound for Bonanza. Blanton struck out six. Blanton also rapped a pair of doubles and scored three runs.
The Antlers were led by Austin Hobbs, who had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in two. Cody Stiles provided two hits, two RBIs and scored twice for Bonanza.
St. Mary's is back in action today with a noon doubleheader against Lost River at Merrill.
