Glover baffles South Medford

Morgan Barnes tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Grants Pass to a 3-0 victory over South Medford in a Southwest Conference softball game on Thursday at Fagone Field.

Barnes threw just 72 total pitches, struck out 13 and did not walk any batters.

"She was in control," said South coach Dan Marshall, whose team fell to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the SWC. "She's got the full complement of pitches."

Tara Glover was 2-for-3 and hit an RBI double in the fifth inning for the Cavers (14-2, 4-1 SWC), who scored one run in the third and two in the fifth.

Emily Woolf was 2-for-2 for Grants Pass.

Samantha Matarese and Shyanne Jones had South Medford's only hits, which came in the first two innings. Jessica Mondale was tagged with the loss despite pitching relatively well, allowing just six hits and three walks. She struck out four.

"Jess pitched well enough to win," Marshall said. "She hit her spots but Grants Pass hit the ball well enough to get a couple runs and put it on cruise control."
