Construction is topic at meetings

The Medford School District will hold neighborhood information meetings Monday and Tuesday about construction projects at Jackson and Howard elementary schools.

Information about plans at Jackson will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday at the Jackson cafeteria, 630 W. Jackson St.

The Howard construction plans will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Howard gymnasium, 286 Mace Road.

Both meetings will include appearances by architects, project managers and engineers and a question and answer period.

Construction at Jackson, attended by about 400 pupils, is set to begin in late summer and continue through 2010. The project included demolishing the oldest portion of the campus and gymnasium and constructing replacement structures. The other existing space will be renovated.

Renovations at Howard, a school of about 570 students, are scheduled for the summer. Howard's gymnasium was renovated during spring break with a fresh coat of paint and new flooring.

Upcoming renovations include painting, new flooring, asbestos removal, new heating and air-conditioning systems and fencing to enhance security.
