ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University senior defensive end Anthony Scolamieri has been named the NAIA independent defensive player of the week.
Kentucky Christian's Ricky Phillips earned the offensive award, while Southern Virginia's Shea Owens earned the special teams honor.
Haskell's Greg Nilges was the freshman of the week.
Scolamieri had seven tackles, including six solo, three tackles for losses and forced a fumble in SOU's 15-14 setback to NCAA Division II Humboldt State on Saturday.
The Raiders (1-1) travel to NCAA Division I-AA Sacramento State on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Medford resident Greg Hafner placed fourth in the PBA Northwest/West Regional Joe's Sports Bar and Grill Tournament at Roxy Ann Lanes in Medford over the weekend.
Also in the money were Klamath Falls' Nate McSwain, who finished 12th, and 14th-place finisher Kevin Croucher of Grants Pass.
Wayne Garber of Modesto, Calif., edged Scot Archibald of Boise, Idaho, to win the event.
