North girls remain unbeaten in SWC

It took three Southwest Conference matches, but a team finally found a way to keep freshman Amber Black from scoring a goal for North Medford.

Unfortunately for Roseburg, the Black Tornado girls soccer team has many more options than Black and proved that Tuesday afternoon.

Jessica Reid and Sarah Chambers each scored a goal and Kendra McMillen posted her third straight shutout in goal to lead North Medford to a 2-0 victory at Hoffbuhr Field.

Previously, Black scored North's lone goals in 1-0 victories over South Medford and South Eugene.

The Black Tornado (4-2, 3-0 SWC) managed an 18-2 edge in shots on goal against Roseburg (0-6-1, 0-3) on Tuesday.

"We definitely dominated the game," said North coach Lu Crenshaw. "We created plenty of scoring opportunities, now we've just got to work on finishing those opportunities."

Reid's goal came in the 31st minute after a nifty bit of teamwork that saw Kate Folsom head a crossing pass to Carissa Arnesen, who in turn sent a header toward the senior Reid for the 8-yard score.

In the 43rd minute, Becca Allen played a ball to fellow freshman Sarah Chambers, who dribbled through the defense and found the net for a 2-0 lead.

SOUTH MEDFORD 3, SOUTH EUGENE 1 — Kelly Dunlap scored a pair of goals and Melissa Boyd notched the eventual game winner in the 62nd minute to lead South Medford at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Ali Kelly and Lindsay Wright each chipped in with assists for the Panthers (3-3-1, 2-1 SWC), while Maddy Cling scored off an assist by Carly Kolpin for South Eugene in the 56th minute.

SHELDON 2, GRANTS PASS 0 — At Eugene, Taylor Housley scored twice and Annie Mohler made seven saves to preserve the shutout in goal for Sheldon (6-1, 3-0 SWC).

SOUTH MEDFORD 1, SOUTH EUGENE 0 — At Eugene, South Medford rode its defensive front line to a fifth straight shutout and its sixth whitewash in seven games.

The only goal the Panthers (5-1-1, 3-0 SWC) needed came in the 53rd minute, when Beto Cortez's cross found Kory Kellum, who headed the ball into the net.

South had six shots to two for the Axemen.

ROSEBURG 5, NORTH MEDFORD 0 — At Roseburg, Brady Sherriff booted in back-to-back second-half goals to put away North Medford in a Southwest Conference match.

Sherriff looped in a penalty kick in the 50th minute and took another in himself for a score in the 65th for the Indians (6-1, 3-0 SWC).

SHELDON 3, GRANTS PASS 1 — At Grants Pass, Sheldon's Kyle Dillon scored two first-half goals in the Irish's SWC victory.

Tommy Yates added another goal in the 50th minute for Sheldon, now 1-2 in SWC play. Eddie Mendoza had the lone goal for Grants Pass (1-6, 0-3 SWC) on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.
