MURPHY — Hidden Valley used a bruising ground attack and some opportune passing as the formula to a key Skyline Conference football victory Friday.
Spencer Apland passed for three touchdowns and Todd Woodrum rushed for 200 yards as Hidden Valley routed Henley 33-13 at Mustangs Field.
Hidden Valley (5-1, 2-0 Skyline) netted 297 yards on the ground. Apland had just five completions in 12 attempts but three went for touchdowns. The Mustangs had four total TDs through the air.
Hidden Valley grabbed an early lead when Woodrum broke a 55-yard run off tackle for a touchdown on the fourth play from scrimmage.
In the second quarter, Apland found Chris Wojcik on a 29-yard TD pass, then Clint Sager hauled in a 21-yard pass from Apland for another score with just seven seconds remaining.
The Mustangs led 20-0 at halftime.
Sager's 65-yard interception return in the third quarter set up another Mustangs' scoring opportunity. Sager finished the series with a 15-yard TD pass from Tyler Bars.
The Hidden Valley defense limited Henley (3-4, 0-1 Skyline) to 98 yards on the ground. The Hornets were 10-of-30 passing for 142 yards.

ILLINOIS VALLEY 20, PHOENIX 13 — At Cave Junction, sophomore quarterback Roger Hults tossed two first-half touchdown passes as Illinois Valley (1-6, 1-1 Skyline) jumped out to a 20-0 lead at intermission.
Hults connected with Antonio Escalante for a 15-yard scoring strike in the first quarter, then found Sam Winter on a 43-yard TD pass in the second period.
Cougar senior Lance Tausaga had a big impact on offense and defense. Tausaga rushed for 84 of the Cougars' 182 yards on the ground and scored one touchdown from 5-yards out. Tausaga had eight solo tackles and seven assists from his middle linebacker spot.
Hults added 111 yards passing on five completions out of 10 attempts.
The Illinois Valley defensive front of Jerrod Houston, Jacob Campbell and Justin Halstead combined for four sacks.
Phoenix fell to 0-2 in the Skyline and 2-5 overall.

CHILOQUIN 21, ST. MARY'S 6 — At Chiloquin, St. Mary's averted being shut out when Conner O'Boyle found Brock Cory with a 70-yard touchdown pass with about one minute to play in the SCL contest.
O'Boyle passed for 107 yards, and Cory had 90 receiving yards on two catches and 37 rushing yards.
Pete Watson led the Crusaders (1-5, 0-2 SCL) with 51 yards on the ground.
Logan Brooks had eight tackles for St. Mary's.

BUTTE FALLS 42, CAMAS VALLEY 20 — At Camas Valley, Butte Falls received its toughest challenge in District 2 play but scored the final 20 points to pull away.
Quarterback Codey Myers threw four touchdown passes and was 9-for-19 for 237 yards, and Josh Dyck had 15 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown for Butte Falls (5-1, 5-0 Dist. 2). Dyck also caught a 63-yard touchdown from Myers.
Chase Ellis caught six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, and Harley Casillas added a touchdown through the air and on the ground.
Camas Valley (3-2, 3-2 Dist. 2) scored the first touchdown of the game and pulled to within 22-20 in the third quarter.
Josh Sutfin had 10 tackles, Ellis added nine and Travis Eller had four sacks for Butte Falls.
