Police are asking for the public's help in finding a former police officer and Phoenix resident accused of online sex crimes with children.
The Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force is looking for Mark Allen Heckerman, 42, who was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court in August with 20 felony counts of encouraging child sex abuse, said Sgt. Josh Moulin.
Heckerman is a former law enforcement officer in Hawaii and California for 18 years who was training to be an Ashland police officer in 2003 when he was arrested on sex-related charges, said Moulin. Moulin said the conviction ended Heckerman's career in law enforcement.
More recently, he operated Heckerman Construction and was working as a finish carpenter, Moulin said. He drove a large blue van with his company logo on the side and an Oregon license plate of TKK648, Moulin said.
Heckerman is believed to be in the Sacramento area now. Police are hoping that Heckerman remains in contact with someone locally who can provide them with information leading to his arrest, he said.
Anyone with information about Heckerman is asked to contact the task force at 541-423-1315 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
