BEAVERTON — The Grants Pass vaunted defense has been tough on running backs all season.
But Jesuit senior Anthony Blake shredded the fifth-ranked Cavemen in a Class 6A football second-round playoff game Friday.
Blake scored five touchdowns and rushed for 209 yards as third-ranked Jesuit defeated No. 5 Grants Pass 38-7 Friday.
Grants Pass, the Southwest Conference No. 2 seed, finished the season with a 9-2 record.
Jesuit (9-1), which has won three state championships since 2000, advances to the quarterfinals for the ninth time in 13 seasons. The Crusaders will face Canby, which beat them 47-35 in the playoffs a year ago.
Grants Pass scored first to take an early 7-0 first-quarter lead. A 54-yard pass completion from junior quarterback Jordy Romick to John Tardieu to the Jesuit 9-yard line set up a TD pass to Brock Dean.
The Crusaders answered with three straight touchdowns to go into halftime with a 19-7 lead.
Then Jesuit extended its lead to 25-7 on the opening series of the second half. Blake ran five times for 62 yards on the drive and scored on a 2-yard run.
Grants Pass, which only scored seven points in an opening-round win over Gresham, could not generate much offense against the Crusaders.
"Putting up seven points in back-to-back games in the playoffs is definitely not going to get it done," said Romick. "Our offense just couldn't execute."
The Cavemen lost in the second-round of the playoffs for the second straight year.

SHELDON 33, WESTVIEW 30 — At Eugene, ninth-ranked Sheldon received an early scare and avoided a late rally by Westview behind Jordan Johnson's three-touchdown effort in the second-round contest.
The Irish (7-4) will next square off against top-ranked Lake Oswego in the quarterfinals.
Sheldon fell in an 8-0 hole after giving up a safety and a touchdown at the start of the first quarter, and traded the lead from that point.
Johnson was 18-for-24 passing for 235 yards and launched a 32-yard pass to Curtis White late in the fourth quarter to give the Irish the cushion they would need.
Johnson also rushed for 80 yards on 17 carries and barrelled in for two scores.
Cameron Abeene also added two rushing TDs while running for 57 yards on 14 carries. He also caught three passes for 29 yards.

NORTH VALLEY 21, NEWPORT 14 — At Merlin, fourth-ranked North Valley overcame an early deficit against the Val-Co League runner-up to post its first playoff win since 2005 at Knights Coliseum.
The Skyline Conference champion Knights (9-1) will next host Estacada in the quarterfinals. Estacada, the Capitol Conference top seed, advanced with a 32-13 victory over Douglas.
North Valley put together an 11-play, 86-yard drive for the winning touchdown. Dane Dellsite's fumble recovery gave the Knights possession at their own 14, then Dellsite completed the long march with a 1-yard TD run.
After North Valley took a 21-14 lead with 6:05 left in the game, the Cubs turned the ball over on downs following an unsuccessful fake punt. The Knights took over at their own 45 and held the ball the final 41/2 minutes of the game.
Newport grabbed a 14-7 lead on Tristan Metcalf's 9-yard run with 7:25 left in the second quarter.
The Knights tied the game 14-all at 3:34 before halftime on junior quarterback Ryan Anderson's 4-yard touchdown pass to Tony Norman.
Anderson was 12-of-19 passing for 163 yards and two TDs. The Knights rushed for 158 yards, with Norman leading the way with 82 yards on 19 carries.

GLADSTONE 27, HIDDEN VALLEY 20, OT — At Gladstone, fifth-ranked Hidden Valley couldn't overcome the momentum created by Gladstone's game-tying score with 35 seconds in regulation as the Gladiators topped the Mustangs in overtime in the second-round playoff.
Todd Woodrum scored twice on the ground in the third quarter to give the Mustangs their first lead. Gladiators running back Tyler Smith plowed in from the 1 to knot the score 20-all late in the fourth, but Gladstone missed the go-ahead extra point to force overtime.
After the sixth-ranked Gladiators (9-1) scored first in the OT on Taylor Taft's 7-yard touchdown run, Hidden Valley was intercepted in the end zone to end the game.
