SOU athletes distribute Thanksgiving cheer

SOU women’s basketball player Jacki Speer removes food items from a car on Tuesday. Speer and a handful of other Raider athletes gave a helping hand to needy families in the Rogue Valley to celebrate Thanksgiving this week.

Members of the Southern Oregon University Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) gave a helping hand to needy families in the Rogue Valley to celebrate Thanksgiving this week.

For the third straight year, SAAC handed out Thanksgiving baskets to 12 families in the Ashland-Talent area. The baskets featured turkey/ham, all the trimmings and more.

SOU teams helped pay for the baskets, and the players delivered them to families Tuesday afternoon.

Families were found through St. Vincent De Paul and associated with Our Lady of the Mountain.

Men's Basketball

The SOU men's basketball team will stage the annual Flagship Inn Classic Friday and Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.

On Saturday, Oregon Tech faces Simpson at 5:30 p.m., and Southern Oregon battles The Masters College at 7:30 p.m.

The Raiders are coming off a tough loss Tuesday to Oregon Tech, 91-81, in Klamath Falls. OIT is the defending national champion.

After this weekend, the Raiders open Cascade Conference play at home against Eastern Oregon (Dec. 5) and the College of Idaho (Dec. 6).
