HILLSBORO — Natasha Torgerson scorched Liberty for 16 points, and the Grants Pass girls basketball team kicked off the season with a 47-35 preseason victory Monday.
The Cavers (1-0) were in control with a 31-18 halftime advantage and were never threatened after the intermission.
Torgerson accounted for two of the Cavers' three 3-pointers and chipped in four steals and two blocked shots.
Heather Wonsyld chimed in for seven points and seven rebounds for the Cavers, and Stephanie Pepperling provided a defensive boost with five steals to accompany her six-point evening.

NORTH VALLEY 50, ROGUE RIVER 42 — At Rogue River, in her debut for North Valley, Jacquie Nicholson poured in a game-high 14 points as the Knights bested Rogue River in a preseason opener.
Nicholson, a transfer from Hidden Valley, notched 10 of her 14 in the third quarter for the Knights (1-0), who received 11 points from Taylor Vandehey.
The Chieftains (0-1) were led by Sabrina Smith's nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Shawna Turham tossed in nine points for Rogue River.
