Summer job pays off big for Kendall
If ever there was an A-plus paper set to be written, it would have to be Ian Kendall's version of the ever popular "What I did over the summer"...
Fans were treated to an offensive explosion Friday night when North Medford played host to McKay in nonconference boys basketball.
With neither team letting up for a second, the Black Tornado outlasted the Royal Scots in a 97-87 thriller.
"I knew it was going to be high scoring because McKay likes to get up the court and play like we do," said North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn. "I just didn't expect it to be 97-87."
Jordan Ellis totaled 33 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, and fellow Black Tornado senior Josh Pecktol added 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists to help North improve to 2-0. Junior forward Matt Maurer added 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
"That's an unreal stat line for a high school kid," Plankenhorn said of Ellis' effort. "It was an unreal night for a lot of those guys."
The same could be said for 6-foot-1 McKay guard Jordan Carter, who poured in 39 points.
"We had no answer for him," Plankenhorn said. "We tried almost everybody on the floor except for maybe Maurer, and he wanted to give it a try."
North was 40-for-77 from the field with only 12 turnovers, while McKay was 28-for-64 in the up-tempo affair.
