Lloyd "Nick" and Helen Nikodym of Phoenix celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 26 with a family dinner at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Terry Phillips.
The event was hosted by their children, Andrea (Terry) Phillips, Tom (Debbie) Nikodym and Jerry (Sue) Nikodym.
Lloyd "Nick" Nikodym married Helen Rutherford on Jan. 26, 1949, at the Four Square Church in Medford.
Lloyd and Helen have been long-time valley residents. The Nikodym family arrived in the Rogue Valley in 1939 and the Rutherford family in 1942. Both Lloyd and Helen attended Phoenix and Medford schools and dated in high school.
Lloyd was a sheet metal worker locally and in Klamath Falls for 40 years before retiring.
Helen was a homemaker and seasonal worker in the pear industry for many years. She returned to school in 1970 and received her nursing license. She worked as a nurse at Rogue Valley Medical Center and in Klamath Falls before retiring.
After enjoying years of camping and travel, including a trip to Papua New Guinea, the Nikodyms are happy to stay near home and enjoy their childdren and grandchildren, who live nearby.
The Nikodyms have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
