Southern Oregon University will offer a new master's program in interdisciplinary studies through the school's College of Arts and Sciences.
The MIIS program, which will begin in the fall, provides students the opportunity to study more than one area of concentration at a time and examine how those areas interact. An MIIS student might focus on biology and international studies, English and writing and computer studies, or health and physical education and environmental studies.
"This is a great opportunity for people who want to advance their careers in a personalized area of study," said Dr. Josie Wilson, acting dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Major concentration areas are biology, criminology and criminal justice, English and writing, health and physical education and social sciences. The MIIS program can be completed in five terms for full-time students who are enrolled for nine to 10 credits per term, although the majority of students are expected to take two years to complete the program.
In addition to the MIIS degree, the program also offers a master of arts in interdisciplinary studies and a master of science in interdisciplinary studies.
The application deadline for early consideration in SOU's MIIS program is April 15.
