4.1-magnitude earthquake reported west of Grants Pass

U.S. Geological Survey map shows area where shaking may have been felt.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 was recorded early this morning between Grants Pass and Gold Beach near the Josephine-Curry county line., the U.S. Geological Survey is reporting.

The earthquake occurred at 1:52 a.m. in the mountains 30 miles northwest of Grants Pass.

The Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network at the University of Washington in Seattle said the quake happened at a depth of about 24 miles.

The network’s Web site described it as a light earthquake. An earthquake with a magnitude of 4 can do moderate damage in built-up areas.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
