Kline's big hit gives boost to South in win

CENTRAL POINT — Casey Kline ripped a three-run double in the third inning to break open the contest and lead South Medford to a 9-4 nonconference baseball win over Crater Tuesday at Anhorn Field.

Josh Havird and Brett Reordan led off the third with singles. After a fly out and strikeout, Max Britton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kline then doubled and was thrown out trying for a triple.

Bo Walker was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs for the Panthers (4-3). Havird, Reordan, Isaac Rolie and Brandon Dollarhide each had two hits for South, including two doubles and three RBIs by Rolie.

South collected 13 hits, but five of its runs were unearned, thanks in part to seven errors by the Comets (5-2).

Andrew Tracy and Corey Wynant were each 2-for-3 and scored for Crater.

ASHLAND 9, GRANTS PASS 4 — At Ashland, Charlie Sebrell was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and earned his second win of the season as Ashland ended Grants Pass' five-game winning streak.

Lewis Sebrell, Garrett Tygerson and Brent Hegdahl were each 2-for-3. Tygerson had two RBIs.

Taylor Spencer led Grants Pass with a two-run double in the first inning.

PHOENIX 11, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1 — At Talent, Skyler Reagan, Justin Bohn and Kasy Locken each had two hits and two runs as Phoenix won the nonconference contest.

Reagan also had three stolen bases, and Bohn and Locken two RBIs each. Jordan Decker hit his second homer, a solo shot in the fourth.

Decker got the pitching win, allowing five hits, fanning four and walking two in four innings.

Cascade Christian's Garrett Banks was 2-for-2.

DOUGLAS 6-1, HIDDEN VALLEY 3-13 — At Murphy, Hidden Valley mustered 16 hits in Game 2 to salvage a doubleheader split with Douglas.

Hidden Valley (6-2) had 10 hits in Game 1 but stranded 11 runners. The Mustangs left the bases loaded in the second and third innings. Hidden Valley's Ryan Hayden was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Dylan Albertson and Jeff Suthann were both 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Mustangs managed eight hits in an eight-run first inning in Game 2. Hayden finished 3-for-3, including a two-RBI double in the first. Mike Suthann and Dylan Armanino were 3-for-4, with Suthann adding three RBIs.

Clint Sager and Jeff Suthann were 2-for-3. Jeff Suthann also had two RBIs and was 4-for-7 in the doubleheader.

SOUTH UMPQUA 19, ROGUE RIVER 14 — At Rogue River, South Umpqua took advantage of eight walks to score eight runs in the top of the seventh and rally for the nonleague win.

Brendan Schoner was 4-for-5 and Kelly White was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for Rogue River (3-5), which also got three hits from Michael Freitas. White also came on in the seventh to help put a halt to South Umpqua's surge.

ST. MARY'S 7, NORTH LAKE 6 — At Silver Lake, Brad Herrman had two hits, two RBIs and picked up his first save for St. Mary's in its District 5 opener.

St. Mary's starter Austin Schrader (1-2) struck out 11 in 51/3 innings, while Herrman recorded five strikeouts in 12/3 innings of work.

The Crusaders' three-run outburst in the sixth proved decisive. Andrew King opened the inning with a double and Nick Brooks walked. Schrader followed with a two-run single, then Jake Davis smacked an RBI double to score what proved to be the winning run.

King also had two hits for St. Mary's (1-3, 1-0 Dist. 5).
