EAGLE POINT — North Medford's Taylor Schmidt had an outstanding all-around day against Eagle Point.
The senior pitcher handcuffed the Eagles and sparked the Black Tornado offense in an 11-1 nonconference softball victory Tuesday.
Moving the pitching mound back from 40 to 43 feet has not had an adverse effect on Schmidt (5-1), who limited the Eagles to four hits and struck out eight.
"(Schmidt) is really strong and has adjusted well to the changes," North Medford coach Mike Mayben said. "She's moving the ball in and out and changing speeds well. She's been real focused."
Schmidt went 3-for-4 to spark North's 14-hit attack. Schmidt hit a solo home run in the first and belted a three-run blast in the third.
Eagle Point (4-5) tied the game 1-all in the second when Karlie Stephens opened with a single and Cheree Dale delivered an RBI double to score pinch runner Amanda Fernandes.
McKenna Storey added three hits, two RBIs and two runs for North, while Jenna Stevens and Brittany Griffor chipped in two hits apiece.
