ROGUE RIVER — Rogue River successfully opened its initial Sunset League baseball campaign Friday.
The Chieftains used some timely hitting and a four-hit pitching performance from Christian Reyes to post a 10-5 victory over Reedsport.
In the second game, which was played as a nonleague game, Rogue River defeated the Braves, 11-4.
Reyes struck out six and didn't walk a batter in the opener. The five runs scored by the Braves were all unearned.
The Chieftains (6-5, 1-0 Sunset) broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. A two-run single by Brendan Schoner and Craig Lee's RBI double were the key hits in the rally.
Rogue River added two more runs in the fifth on Schoner's double, an RBI single by Kelly White and a run-scoring single by Tom Cermak.
Schoner's two hits and two RBIs sparked the attack.
In Game 2, Darren Taylor had two doubles, a sacrifice fly and four RBIs to pace the Chieftain offense.
Jon Garcia's solo home run capped an eight-run fourth inning.
Cermak and Reyes had two hits apiece in the nightcap.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 14, COQUILLE 1, 5 inn. — At White City, senior pitcher Ryan Pech tallied 10 strikeouts in five innings as Cascade Christian rolled to the Sunset League win at the V.A. Domiciliary.
Ryder West went 3-for-4 with a double that scored two of the Challengers' nine runs in the third inning.
Colton Cochran was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Cascade Christian (4-3, 1-0 Sunset), while Josh Artale also had two RBIs.

ROSEBURG 3, TUALATIN 2 — At Roseburg, Roseburg answered a solo home run in the second inning by Tualatin's Symonds Brian with a pair of runs in the third and then managed the game-winning run on an RBI single by Cameron Newell in the fifth.
Roseburg (5-2), answered with two runs in the third and an RBI single from Cameron Newell in the bottom of the fifth drove in the go-ahead run for the Indians
Brandon Jackson allowed one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts for Roseburg (5-2), which managed only four hits against Tualatin (7-2).

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 13, COQUILLE 0, 5 inn. — Leah Weakley tossed a two-hit shutout with two strikeouts in the Sunset League win at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Amanda Kinney and Nikki Jones each had three RBIs for Cascade Christian (5-3).
Jazmin Gomez closed on the mound for the Challengers, striking out the side in the top of the fifth to seal the victory.

Ayla Gomez led a Chieftain rally in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single to give Rogue River (4-5, 1-0 Sunset) the lead for good in the opener.
In Game 2, which was contested as a nonleague affair, Rogue River pounded out 14 hits to rout Reedsport in five innings.

NORTH MEDFORD 4, GRANTS PASS 4 — At Grants Pass, North Medford had a strong showing in doubles, winning three of four matches, in its Southwest Conference opener.
The Black Tornado No. 2 doubles team of freshman Lydia Kimball and sophomore Kami Goodson rallied from a slow start. The North pair trailed 5-2 in the first set to Karlee Albertson and Jacque Cox, but won 11 straight games to post a straight-set victory.
