Britton helps Panthers split with Mazama

April 05, 2009

KLAMATH FALLS — Max Britton eventually hit a rough patch, but only after the South Medford senior pitcher flirted with a no-hitter in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader against Mazama.

Britton sat down Mazama's lineup in order until the fifth inning, when he gave up four runs — two earned — on all three Mazama hits in the Panthers' 10-4 triumph.

The Vikings rallied to win the nightcap, 9-5, at Steen Sports Complex.

Britton went the distance in Game 1, striking out five with two walks.

The Panthers (5-4) rolled up five runs in the first inning after getting a two-run triple from Jordan Lundgren and a two-run double from Ryan Wellock. Josh Havird began the surge with an RBI double.

In the nightcap, Mazama's Andrew McDaniel was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. He was 5-for-7 with four runs and four RBIs overall.
