Hansen, Stephens lead Eagles to sweep

MERLIN — Chloe Hansen and Karlie Stephens figured prominently in Eagle Point's doubleheader softball sweep over North Valley Saturday.

The Eagles defeated North Valley 7-1 and 13-1 in five innings in the nonconference games.

Hansen and Stephens combined for a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opener.

Jeanna Rinehart's single in the fourth inning accounted for North Valley's only hit.

Cheree Dale and Christine McCready each had two hits and one RBI for the Eagles (6-5), who capitalized on eight errors by the Knights (2-10).

In Game 2, Stephens tossed four shutout innings and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hansen had three hits and scored two runs in the nightcap.

Jamie Paxton collected three hits and scored twice in the second game for the Eagles.

Brittany Reeves pitched well for the Comets (2-7) in the opener, surrendering just one run on six hits and struck out seven with no walks.

In the nightcap, Karrisa Weast broke up a no-hit bid by Raiders pitcher Chelsea Cohen in the fifth inning with a pinch-hit single.

The Comets lost to Reno High School twice on Friday, 7-3 and 7-3.

In Game 1, Chiloquin pitcher Jade Martinez fanned 15 and provided a double and triple with two RBIs.

Cassie Shammel collected an RBI single for the Crusaders in the opener.

Clara Biale had two hits for St. Mary's (1-2, 1-2 Dist. 4) in the nightcap.

BUTTE FALLS 10-27, PROSPECT 7-2 — At Butte Falls, Butte Falls scored 12 runs in the first inning of the second game en route to the sweep.

In Game 1, Aarika Stephens went 3-for-4 and Allison Givens went 2-for-3 for the Loggers (4-1, 2-1 Dist. 4) .

Kiersten Anderson smacked a home run and a triple for Prospect.

Beth Sutfin went 5-for-5 to spark Butte Falls in the second game. Jessica Driskell added three hits and Givens collected two hits for the Loggers.
