FRESNO, Calif. — Christian Massey wielded a hot bat, but it wasn't enough to lead ninth-ranked Crater as the Comets dropped a pair of games Tuesday in the 40th annual Easter Baseball Classic.
Crater dropped to 1-2 in the 30-team tournament by virtue of a 3-1 loss to Woodside (Calif.) and then a 13-8 loss to Lemoore (Calif.).
Massey was 2-for-3 and singled in Haden Bighouse in the first inning against Woodside for Crater's lone run. The Comets (7-4) managed only four hits overall in the game, with Bryce Crawford adding a double.
Massey added a solo home run against Lemoore to finish 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Andrew Tracy was 2-for-4.
Crater returns to face tournament-favorite Clovis West at 10 a.m. today.

GRANTS PASS 11, EAGLE POINT 2 — At Grants Pass, a pair of five-run surges by host Grants Pass in the fifth and sixth innings put the nonleague game out of reach for Eagle Point.
Tyler Spencer connected for a three-run homer in the fifth to spark the rally for the Cavemen (8-4).
Ryan Miller and Brandon Drury each had an RBI for Grants Pass.

MAZAMA 4, KLAMATH UNION 3 — At Klamath Falls, Mazama used three first-inning runs to set the tone and added another run in the fifth to clinch the Southern Sky Conference win.
Mazama's Paul Smith held the Pelicans (5-2, 0-1 SSC) to five hits after coming on in relief of Gage Beckman in the fourth.
Aaron Bocchi had two RBIs and Beau Howard added an RBI for Mazama (6-4, 1-0 SSC).
Seth Brown drove in two runs and joined Mason Aspera and Alex Stork in hitting a double for Klamath Union.

The Challengers (6-3, 2-0 Sunset) scored four runs in the seventh inning on just two hits. The hits were a leadoff double by Steven Spence and Jacob Miller's RBI infield single.
Spence had two hits.

Freitas hit a two-out, RBI single to right field to break a 4-4 tie. He was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Brendan Schoner was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Reyes struck out four to improve to 3-2.
