Crater's Brittany Reeves and North Medford's Taylor Schmidt hooked up in a pitcher's duel Tuesday.
But North Medford came out on top against the visiting Comets, 3-1, in nonconference softball at the Black Tornado field.
Schmidt allowed three hits and struck out six, while Reeves gave up four hits and also fanned six.
The Black Tornado (7-1) bunched three hits together in the third inning to score two runs. Jenna Stevens opened with a single, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a single up the middle by McKenna Storey, who went to second on a throw home.
Storey moved to third on a ground out and scored on a squeeze bunt single by Amanda Wolfe.
In the fifth, North added another run. With two outs, Taylor Schmidt got hit by a pitch. Courtesy runner Amanda Freitas stole second and came around to score on two passed balls.
Crater (2-8) got it's lone run in the seventh when Kayla Hopkinson tripled to left-center field, then scored on a ground out by Renee Murphy.

ST. MARY'S 5, BONANZA 0 — St. Mary's Allison Hass pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to shut out visiting Bonanza at St. Mary's High.
The only hit off Hass was a single by Katherine Valadao in the third. Hass struck out the next batter to retire the side.
Risa Pipper went 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Crusaders (2-2, 2-2 Dist. 4), and Rebecca Eccleston went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
