Better safe than sorry is a mantra few follow
Given the attention NFL teams received by pulling out their prominent players late in the season or not playing them at all, one wonders why that...
EAGLE POINT — Eagle Point pitcher Wade McCready already has a no-hitter to his credit this season, and the junior right-hander added a complete-game shutout to his resume Saturday in helping the Eagles to a Southern Sky Conference sweep of Mazama.
McCready posted nine strikeouts and scattered seven hits with three walks in a 7-0 triumph over the visiting Vikings in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Eagle Point (5-6, 2-1 SSC) won the first game 7-4.
On April 1, McCready tossed a no-hitter in a 9-1 win over Hidden Valley. He improved his record to 3-0 on Saturday.
Garrett Davis and Derek Tuttle each went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI in the nightcap, while Brian Hodgkins — who played catcher for each game — was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Senior Brian Smith was equally as effective on the mound in the opener, notching a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to offset five walks and three hit batsmen.
Hodgkins was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI in Game 2, with the Eagles breaking a 4-all tie in the fifth after a leadoff single by Dwight McLaughlin and an RBI single by Smith.
Brandon Hauser scored on a passed ball and Hodgkins scored on a Tyson Brownlee groundout in the sixth to pad EP's lead.
