Green drinks expands

A new twist on cocktail hour has the green light in Medford.

Green Drinks, a group that meets monthly to discuss the environment and sustainability, expands this month from Ashland to other Rogue Valley communities. One of more than 400 chapters worldwide, Rogue Valley Green Drinks plans to meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 29 at 38 Central, located in downtown Medford at 38 N. Central Ave.

"This is exactly what we hoped would happen," says Jason Zook, a Medford architect who co-founded Green Drinks' Ashland chapter last year. Representing the Rogue Valley Green Building Council, Zook will be the new chapter's first speaker.

Planned for the last Wednesday of every month, Rogue Valley Green Drinks likely will rotate venues among Medford, Jacksonville and Central Point, says organizer Wendy Siporen. Depending on interest, meetings may only take place every other month, she says.

"We have a vision of having it around the valley."

Upcoming topics are the Jackson County Master Recycler Program and local food. There's no charge to attend, but participants buy their own drinks. Approximately 150 people regularly attend Ashland meetings on the last Friday of every month at Standing Stone Brewing Co., 101 Oak St.
