Summer job pays off big for Kendall
If ever there was an A-plus paper set to be written, it would have to be Ian Kendall's version of the ever popular "What I did over the summer"...
Jazmin Gomez and Cascade Christian handed Gold Beach its first Sunset League loss since the 2007 season.
Behind Gomez, who struck out four and allowed just two earned runs, the Challengers (11-8, 7-4 Sunset) defeated Gold Beach 6-3 to salvage a doubleheader split at U.S. Cellular Community Park. Gold Beach (17-4, 9-1 Sunset) won Game 1, 7-0.
The Game 2 loss is Gold Beach's first in league since Glide defeated the Panthers 1-0 on April 24, 2007.
Amanda Kinney had a bases-loaded triple in the top of the fifth. That was part of a four-run inning that gave Cascade Christian a 6-2 lead.
Gold Beach's Molly Hockema allowed just three hits in Game 1.
She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

PHOENIX 5-5, NORTH VALLEY 3-8 — At Merlin, Danielle Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Phoenix, and the Pirates (17-7, 8-3 Skyline) clinched second place in the Skyline Conference with the Game 1 victory.
Rachel Conard went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for North Valley in the first game.
In the nightcap, North Valley (8-15, 6-5 Skyline) was able to come away with the win.
Kendra Peckham went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Knights, and Jenna Lewis scored two times with three stolen bases.

ST. MARY'S 4-3, LAKEVIEW 2-7 — Allison Hass had eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run for St. Mary's in the first game at St. Mary's High.
Jo'c Whipple drove in two runs off a single that went into right field to cap off a first-inning rally for the Crusaders (7-13, 6-12 Dist. 4).
In Game 2, Hass again had eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run but eight errors plagued the Crusaders.
Cassie Shammel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for St. Mary's in the nightcap.

PROSPECT 21-6, BONANZA 0-10 — At Prospect, Prospect opened the doubleheader with 16 runs in the first inning, but Bonanza bounced back in Game 2 to earn the split.
Catherine Anderson took the win in the first game and the loss in the second game. She had nine strikeouts and no walks in Game 1. Lindsey Baker had a two-run double in the first inning, and Prospect (6-12, 5-10 Dist. 4) had eight hits to go along with seven walks that inning. Keirstin Anderson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Rachel Summers was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Catherine Anderson was 2-for-4 in Game 2, but Bonanza took advantage of nine Prospect errors to rally for the win.
