"Monkey and Butterfly" and other oil paintings by Nicole Etienne Powell will be featured during August at Etienne Gallery in Ashland.

Luscious oil paintings by Nicole Etienne Powell, bas relief collage and graphite drawings by Jan Schmitz, ceramic sculpture by Susan Springer and Penelope Dews and various works by Marie Maretska, Virginia Andrade and Jim Robinson will be showcased during the First Friday art walk in Ashland's downtown and railroad district.

The art walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., and visitors can look for many other new exhibits at participating galleries, along with wine-tasting and live music.

Powell is an international artist who is based in New York City and has had shows at Origins Galleries in Dublin, Ireland, and at Eden Rock Gallery in St. Barts in the French West Indies. Her work also has been exhibited in Scotland, Japan, Hong Kong, Mexico and Australia. Her show in Ashland will be at Etienne Gallery, owned by her mother, Suzanne Etienne. Schmitz, Springer, Dews, Maretska, Andrade and Robinson are fine artists who live and work in the Rogue Valley.

ASHLAND ART WORKS: 291 Oak St., ashlandartworks.com, 488-4735. Galleries, studios and a sculpture garden. "Artists of the West," an exhibit featuring pastel landscapes by Clive R. Tyler, silk paintings by Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, oil paintings by Sandra VanderWall, acrylic and oil paintings by Thomas Stotts and photography by Cynthia Wolf. BOHEMIA GALLERY AND FRAMING: 552 A St., bohemiagallery.com, 488-5227. An art lounge, framery, gift shop and live performance venue. "Sexy Beast," a new exhibit featuring oils and acrylics by Martique Lorray, sculpture by David Gelfand and Marco Stanton, will be showcased. Classical guitarist Bil Leonhart will perform, and Conscious Wine will offer wine tasting.

CONCETTI FINE ARTS: 40 N. Main St., lindacurtisstudio.com, 482-9900. A series of bas-relief collage and works in graphite by Jan Schmitz will be displayed, along with works by Nancy Block, Melanie Cardinal, Marie Ann Carson, Linda Curtis, Shan Lolis, Margery Mercer, Shari O'Neal Young and Larry Safley.

GALLERIE KARON: 500 A St., 482-9008. "Woman's Journey: A Life in Paintings" by Rebecca Gabriel. The artist will introduce her new book of color illustrations, titled by the same name, and there will be live jazz and wines from South Stage Cellars.
