Raiders rip EP in opener

EAGLE POINT — Andre Olgesby outrushed the entire Eagle Point team to lead visiting Crescent Valley to a 42-12 victory in a nonleague season opener Friday at Eagle Stadium.

Olgesby gained 141 yards and scored three touchdowns on 22 carries, while his teammates limited the Eagles to 73 rushing yards and only 11 first downs.

"Their game plan was great," Eagle Point coach Jacob Schauffler said. "They ran the ball effectively. Their line was really solid."

Eagle Point, which started eight sophomores, failed to convert on three trips into the red zone with two dropped passes in the end zone. The Eagles also fumbled twice.

"We're young," Schauffler said. "That's not an excuse, but we're just inexperienced and we've got to figure out a way to get through that."

On a bright spot, Austin Marlia and Aaron Foster hooked up for two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Eagles.

Marlia was 15-of-30 passing for 212 yards, most of it going to Foster. He finished with eight receptions for 166 yards.

Crescent Valley rushed the ball 60 times for 353 yards and each of the Raiders' six touchdowns was on the ground.

DOUGLAS 49, PHOENIX 41 — At Winston, Phoenix senior quarterback Chris Kammel passed for 393 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 83 more but the Pirate defense had no answer for Jered Stoffal, who scored five touchdowns.

Polamalu completed 20 of 42 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns. Polamalu and Kammel each had four interceptions.

Phoenix took a 6-0, first-quarter lead on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Kammel to Justin Bohn.

Douglas answered with a pair of TD passes from Polamalu in the opening period and took a 22-12 halftime lead.

In the second half, Phoenix scored the first of four touchdowns on a 74-yard pass from Kammel to Skyler Reagan. Each time the Pirates scored Douglas responded with a touchdown to hold onto the lead.
