When construction crews diverted the Rogue River through its historic channel past Savage Rapids Dam Friday, this stretch of water became boatable for the first time in 88 years.
This week's video on floating and fishing the Rogue takes viewers down the newly reconstituted Savage Rapids in the first boat to descend the new rapid, as it was forming.
This is the newest in a series of videos posted on the Mail Tribune's new Rogue River Guide, an online project devoted to giving viewers detailed and useful information about the Rogue River.
In addition to a growing archive of videos, the guide includes an interactive map that shows fishing-access points, offers navigational tips and provides other information about the upper Rogue that's useful for anglers, boaters and rafters.
The videos are produced by Mail Tribune outdoors writer Mark Freeman and staff photographer Jamie Lusch as they continue their float downstream to the ocean.
