Bowling

Medford No Names, a women's team from Lava Lanes, earned first place at the Oregon State 600 Tournament with a total score of 2,761.

Members of the team were Thelma Glass, Marilyn Wilson, Sheila Anderson and Carol Harsh.

Five men rolled 300 games at Lava Lanes recently.

Dan Gibson and Mike Henderson both bowled perfect games on Oct. 5; Justin Edwards rolled one on Oct. 16; and Jerome Lee and Gary Hamblin each did so Oct. 21.

Golf

Chuck Schulman aced the 163-yard seventh hole at Stewart Meadows Golf Course with a 5-wood on Oct. 21.

Arlan Foote made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole of the inside nine at Rogue Valley Country Club on Oct. 24. Foote used a 22-degree hybrid.

Roping

Don Elms was a champion at the American Cowboy Team Roping Association National Championships in Reno, Nev.

Elms won the heeling event in the century division and also was the fifth-place header in the super-seven division, where he teamed with heeler Hayes Smith. In the No. 3 division, Holly McHugh was the second-place header, and Yogi Davis nabbed 12th place. In the 5.5 division, Wes Hardin was 11th-place heeler.

Other winners in rotations were Tom Perry, Misty Perry, Marti Anderson, Linda Sawyers and Rick Sawyers. Some divisions had more than 1,000 teams entered.

Track and Field

Dan Bulkley of Phoenix and Monty Cartwright of Jacksonville excelled in the recent Huntsman World Masters Games in St. George, Utah.

Bulkley, competing in the 90-year-old age group, won medals in the 50-, 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter dashes as well as the triple jump. Bulkley broke records in both the 200 and 800.

Bulkley also competed in the second week in badminton, taking the gold medal in the men's singles for 90-year olds. He also won the silver medal in doubles with Jerrett Koenigsberg of Albuquerque, N.M., and a silver with Patricia LeBlanc of West Virginia in the mixed doubles.

Cartwright won the gold medal in the triple jump in the 65-year-old division.

Special Olympics

Aaron Aarseth, 26, of Medford, received the Governors Gold Award and the Shriver's Greatness Award during a ceremony in Portland.

Aarseth was honored for his contribution and dedication to Special Olympics.

Aarseth was part of the Final Leg Team that carried the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics 2009 World Winter Games in Nampa, Idaho, in February.
