Applegate Trail buff William Emerson will describe how the trail fits into Southern Oregon history during a free talk Wednesday in Medford.
The talk at noon at the Medford Branch Library, 205 S. Central Ave., is part of the Land of the Empire Builders series organized by the Southern Oregon Historical Society. People who come to listen can bring a lunch to eat during the talk.
Emerson will combine information from writings, diaries, recollections and reminiscences to tell the story of the 15-person exploring party that traveled south through Oregon, then east to the California Trail, in search of an alernate route through the area. These families worked together to get through the hardships of the southern route to Oregon that has come to be known as "the Applegate Trail."
