Nearly two dozen high-ranking Medford police officials will visit homes in the Liberty Park neighborhood this evening to discuss public safety, livability and other issues.
The city conducts regular walks that send officials from building, parks and public works departments into neighborhoods to improve connections with and service to residents. This month's walk focuses on public safety in an area that has been hit by gang violence, including a fatal stabbing during a fight in mid-September, officials explained.
Police officials will hit the streets in the 28-square-block area between 5 and 8 p.m. in hopes of visiting at least 101 of the 202 residences, Lt. Tim Doney said. They plan to listen to neighbors' concerns and provide information about social services, youth programs, and code enforcement for blight and nuisance properties which could pose health and safety hazards. They will also discuss Neighborhood Watch, the police department's anonymous tip line, and immediate public safety needs such as drug houses, gang activity and wanted people.
