ASHLAND — The top-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team will be in action in the annual Red and Black Intrasquad tonight.
The dual starts at 7:30 at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders are ranked No. 1 in the NAIA preseason Top 20 poll. They won the NAIA national dual championship last season and finished second in the NAIA national tournament.
The intrasquad will feature seven nationally ranked wrestlers. Defending national champion Chris Platt is ranked No. 1 at 184 pounds, as is Mitchell Lofstedt (125) and John Bates (heavyweight).
Barry Johnson (141) and Tommie Hooper (157) are both ranked second. Ronnie Lee is ranked seventh at 197 and Kris Spencer is ranked 10th at 165.
There will be between 15 and 20 matches, with each lasting four minutes.
Former Crater High runner Kayleigh Tyerman continued her outstanding freshman cross country season at Cal Poly last weekend by placing second in the Big West Conference championships.
Tyerman led the Mustangs' women's team with a clocking of 20 minutes, 35 seconds over 8,000 meters.
UC Davis' Sarah Sumpter nipped Tyerman by one second for the victory.
Tyerman has been named the Big West athlete of the week three times this fall. She's had two other second-place showings, a third and a 10th.
Cal Poly next competes in the NCAA West Regional in Eugene on Nov. 14.
The Phoenix High baseball team will hold a chili feed fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. Friday adjacent to the school's football stadium.
The event is sponsored by the National Guard of Oregon.
The chili feed is in conjunction with the Pirate football team's crucial Skyline Conference game against Henley at 7 p.m.
