Cancer society's Relay for Life drive gets under way today

The American Cancer Society will kick off its annual Relay for Life fundraiser with a celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Carnegie Building, the former county library building at the corner of West Main and North Ivy streets in Medford.

The Medford Relay for Life, which raised $100,000 this year, is next scheduled for June 5-6. The 22-hour team event celebrates survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle with cancer. Teams are formed within community groups, businesses, families and friends. Most teams are formed in honor or in memory of someone with cancer

Today's event will launch the group's annual fundraiser with music, food, prizes, dancing and more. Teams that will participate in the relay are invited to attend as is anyone interested in joining in. Special prizes will be awarded to the teams with the most sign-ups and participation.

Medford's grand marshal, an 11-year-old cancer survivor, Chloe Staten, will be present. There also will be information on starting and registering teams, fundraising, cancer society resources and more.

To register a team for the relay, see www.relayforlife.org/medfordjacksoncounty.or or call Jenn Hedgepeth at 301-5084.
