Restaurant inspections
Jackson County health inspectors evaluated 110 restaurants in October. All passed their semiannual inspections, and 17 received perfect scores of 100. Scores are reported in the Mail Tribune, with a portion published weekly.
The following restaurants received perfect scores of 100:

- Cascade Gorge Restaurant, Prospect;
- Elements Tapas Bar & Lounge, Medford;
- Human Bean, Rossanley Drive, Medford;
- KFC, Central Point;
- The Lunch Lady, Medford;
- Lunchbox Delivery, Medford;
- Mr. Smith's, Medford;
- Mucho Gusto Mexican Kitchen, Medford;
- Purple Parrot, Eagle Point;
- Purple Parrot, South Central Avenue, Medford;
- Taco Bell No. 4167, East Jackson Street, Medford;
- Trophy Club, Medford;
- Woody's Chicago Style, Medford;
- Yellow Submarine Sandwich Shop, Medford.
The following restaurants received passing scores of 70 points or higher:

- Applebee's, Medford — 91;
- Ashland Bakery/Bistro Cafe, Ashland — 83;
- Asian Grill, Medford — 96;
- The Beanery, Ashland — 93;
- Big Al's Drive-In, Ashland — 90;
- Black Bear Diner, Medford — 86;
- Bonsai Teriyaki Sushi, West Sixth Street, Medford — 92;
- Bonsai Teriyaki Sushi II, Ashland — 91;
- Brothers Restaurant, Ashland — 97;
- Butte Falls Tavern, Butte Falls — 89;
- Cafe Bella Mondo, Medford — 95.
Inspectors subtract points for critical violations, which include: foods held at improper temperatures, improperly cooled or reheated; not properly protected from contamination, from unapproved origins, unsafe, adulterated or not honestly presented; not date-marked or discarded upon expiration; raw animal foods improperly cooked; presence of rodents or insects; inadequate personal hygiene; failure to clean and sanitize food equipment; lack of an approved water system; toxic chemicals or cleansers not properly stored, used or labeled.
