Fall has fallen all over our yards, but help is on the way beginning this week from two garbage services.
In Medford and Central Point, Rogue Disposal offers a leaf pickup service beginning today. In Ashland and Talent, Ashland Sanitary does the job beginning . Each has rules, limits and schedules. Here’s a rundown:
In Medford, Rogue Disposal will pick up leaves from homes north of Main, Hillcrest and Cherry streets the weeks of Nov. 9, Nov. 30 and Dec. 21. For homes south of those streets, pickup will be on the weeks of Nov. 16, Dec. 7 and Dec. 28. In Central Point, the hauler will collect leaves on two days: Nov. 23 and Dec. 18.
For any of the Medford or Central Point pickups, leaves should be in heavy-duty plastic bags, and the bags should be tied shut and at the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on the Monday of the leaf collection week in your neighborhood.
Collected leaves will be turned into compost, keeping recyclable yard waste out of the landfill, Rogue Disposal says on its Web site, roguedisposal.com.
In Ashland and Talent, Ashland Sanitary accepts leaves at the Ashland recycling center at Water and Van Ness streets today and on Monday, Nov. 23. It also will pick up leaves curbside from Talent and Ashland in November and December provided they’re in bags provided by the garbage service. Five bags are available at Ashland Sanitary’s office at 170 Oak St., Ashland, for $14.50.
It also composts the leaves it collects, the service says on its Web site, ashlandsanitary.com.
