PORTLAND — A judge has denied a request for a preliminary injunction to block a pair of Oregon ballot measures to decide a $733 million tax increase aimed at corporations and the wealthy.
Marion County Circuit Judge Paul Lipscomb ruled today that the ballot title review by the state attorney general and the Oregon Supreme Court was enough to safeguard the process.
Opponents of the tax hike, led by Portland political consultant Pat McCormick, had claimed the process used to draft the ballot titles and statements was flawed and the language was politically slanted.
But the judge said the committee was authorized to write the ballot titles and it was up to the Supreme Court to make any changes — which it did, revising only a few words last week.
