Pipeline meeting Monday

Opponents of a plan to build a liquified natural gas pipeline across parts of Jackson County plan a meeting in Shady Cove Monday to talk about the project.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Upper Rogue Community Center, 22465 Highway 62, and it's open to the public. Oregon Citizens Against the Pipeline & Citizens Against LNG also plan a meeting Sunday in Myrtle Creek.

Jody McCaffree of Citizens Against LNG, Dan Serres of Columbia Riverkeeper, Francis Eatherington on behalf of landowners and Umpqua Watersheds and Lesley Adams of Rogue Riverkeeper will speak.

They will give an update on the project, which would build a liquified natural gas port in Coos Bay and string a pipeline to carry the gas from Coos Bay to Malin in southeast Oregon, crossing parts of northern Jackson County along the way.

Opponents say the project threatens private property, water quality, salmon and other fish, wildlife, community safety and old-growth forests in Southern Oregon.

Details: Lesley Adams, Rogue Riverkeeper, Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, 541-488-5789 or lesley@kswild.org.
