A collection of oil paintings by Jacksonville artist Eugene Bennett — painted during the '50s — will be featured through January at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 N. Bartlett St., Medford.
Bennett's style of oil painting has a resemblance to watercolor, which is the artist's usual medium, and demonstrate his mastery of light and color.
An exhibit of bold, colorful watercolor paintings by Medford artist Frank Rinna will be displayed in the main gallery. A reception for Rinna will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Third Friday downtown art walk held Nov. 20.
Bennett studied music at the University of Oregon until he joined the Navy in 1943. He painted wherever he was stationed, and when he was discharged in 1946 he kept on painting. His work has been shown at the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the San Francisco Museum of Art, Alba, Italy and the Schneider Museum of Art at Southern Oregon University in Ashland.
Rinna retired from a 40-year commercial art career to pursue fine art. His work reflects his travels and the beauty of everyday vignettes. He often portrays subjects in a manner that evokes both intimacy and familiarity.
Rinna's work will be displayed through Dec. 24 at the Rogue Gallery. Call 772-8118 for more information.
Less than a block away from the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, Art du Jour will display pastel paintings by one of its gallery members, Carol Eaton-Preston.
Preston captures moments and places in time in her work, which she describes as her impression of the world at large. She selects a medium — oil, pastel or watercolor — which she feels will best portray specific landscapes. Her work will be displayed through December in the gallery, 213 E. Main St.
A reception for Preston will be held Friday during the art walk. Refreshments will be provided. Friday also will be the first day of the gallery's holiday sale. For more information, call 770-3190.
For November's art walk, chefs participating in the Downtown Throwdown will prepare Thanksgiving side dishes. Visitors can expect to taste cranberries, green beans, stuffing, sweet potatoes and other fall dishes that compliment a turkey meal.
Elements, 38 Central, Downtown Market Co., Jackson Creek Pizza and Deli Down will offer gourmet food samples at the Rogue Gallery, Facets Jewelry, Terra Firma Home, Molly Reed and My Daughter's Closet. Look for white balloons outside of the participating venues. Food service is limited to the first 100 people.
Last month, Deli Down won first place in the Throwdown for its preparation and display of roasted garlic and pumpkin fondue with gruyere cheese.
Here's a look at what's happening elsewhere on Third Friday:
