There's more to Thanksgiving than turkey and pumpkin pie at several holiday-oriented events around Southern Oregon today.
You can burn off some of the big dinner before you consume it at free "bootcamp" style fitness classes for women this morning in Medford and Ashland. Both are fundraisers for ACCESS Inc.
The Medford version of the Women's Thanksgiving Fitness Boot Camp is from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Santo Community Center gym, and the Ashland version is from 9 to 10 a.m. at The Grove, 1195 E. Main St. Organizers ask participants to bring canned food for the social service agency. Online registration is at http://www.eventsbot.com/events/eb531453383.
Move to the music and the religious leaders at 10 a.m. at Wesley Hall, behind Ashland's First United Methodist Church, Main and Laurel streets, during the annual interfaith Thanksgiving service. The free service welcomes people of any faith to join in singing, praying, dancing, chanting and drumming.
It's not just a feast but a "dancefeast" during the 10th annual Nia Thanksgiving DanceFeast from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at DanceSpace, 280 E. Hersey St., Suite 10, Ashland. The event allows participants to express their thanks in movement and dancing, say organizers. No dancing experience is necessary, and the fee is $12. Details are at www.nianow.com.
