Accident kills Grants Pass man

A traffic accident on Shan Creek Road in Josephine County killed a 41-year-old Grants Pass man who was returning home with his family after cutting Christmas trees, according to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Davault died at about 6:30 p.m. Friday after the family's vehicle slid off the roadway down a steep embankment, and he was ejected from the vehicle, according to a press release by the sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office, American Medical Response, Rural Metro Fire Department, Grants Pass Fire Department and the Illinois Valley Fire Department responded to the scene.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the accident, the press release said.

Family members in the vehicle were transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital, where they were receiving treatment for injuries caused by the accident. The number of family members, their names and ages and relationship to Davault were not available Sunday. No one from the sheriff's office could be reached Sunday for more details about the accident.
