'Omnivore's Dilemma' farmer speaks

Virginia farmer and author Joel Salatin, a main subject of the popular book "Omnivore's Dilemma," speaks Feb. 19 in Medford.

Salatin's talk is at 6:30 p.m. at North Medford High School, 1900 N. Keene Way Drive. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Salatin is an advocate of farms that incorporate such ideals as transparency, individuality and community and that are "grass-based" and follow nature's patterns.

Will Reishman of the Jackson County Local Action Coalition says his group is one of the sponsors of the event because it wants to help people support local agriculture, improve their nutrition and help reduce government regulation of farms that is aimed at corporate agriculture but is "bludgeoning the family farm €¦ to the point of extermination."
