    Saturday, Oct. 9: Hike to see salmon jumping Rainie Falls on the Rogue on their way back from the ocean. The hike to Rainie Falls is an easy to moderate, 4.5-mile hike through low-elevation forest. Meet at 9 a.m. at Evo's in Ashland or at the Rainie Falls trailhead at the base of the bridge where Grave Creek enters the Rogue at 10:30 a.m.

    Saturday, Oct. 9: Downhill hike on Mount Ashland segment of the Pacific Crest Trail, seven to eight miles. Call Carol Walker, 541-488-8517, or Carol Ingelson, 541-245-6380, for details.
    Saturday, Oct. 16: Moderate, seven-mile hike in the Greensprings (Buck Rock and train tunnel). For details call Cathy Edwards at 541-210-0204.

    Native Plant Society outings
    Sunday, Oct. 17: Wayne Rolle will lead a cross-country hike to McDonald Basin via the Siskiyou Crest and McDonald Peak. There will be some interesting grasslands and hillslope wetlands, as well as Bigleaf sagebrush. Less than four miles round-trip, but no trails. Meet at 9 a.m. behind the Oil Stop on Ashland Street, just west of the BiMart/Shop ‘n' Kart parking lot in Ashland. For more information call Rolle at 541-482-0093.
    Sunday, Oct. 31: Fall fungi hike led by Wayne Rolle, John Teem and John Villella. Destination will be in the Cascades on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Exact site to be determined based on how the mushroom season is shaping up at that time. To carpool, meet in visitor parking at the Medford Interagency Office at 3040 Biddle Road, Medford.     Fall mushroom hike
    Saturday, Oct. 23: Local mushroom expert John Teem will guide a walk in search of mushrooms. The emphasis will be on finding fungi and learning something about identification and the diversity of mushroom species. Edible and poisonous varieties will be discussed. Meet at Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland, at 10 a.m. to carpool. Cost is $15 per person. Space is limited so sign up early. For more information, call 541-482-3241.
