  • Area skiers eyeing fresh snow on Mount Ashland can get a jump on the upcoming season by upgrading their gear at an annual swap meet in Medford.
The Medford Ski Education Foundation has changed venues for its annual Ski and Snowboard Swap event, set for Nov. 12-14, in which the public can buy and sell winter sportswear and gear, both new and used.
After years of being held at North Medford High School, the event this year will be at the Multipurpose Room at St. Mary's School, 816 Black Oak Dr.
The room normally used at North Medford already was booked by another organization, says Ron Johnson, who is organizing the swap. After searching for a new venue, St. Mary's came forward as a willing host.
St. Mary's could become the annual host of the swap because the Medford School District plans to charge fees beginning next year to organizations using school facilities, Johnson says.
This year, participating sellers run the gamut from grade-school snowboarders who want to sell boots that don't fit anymore to local winter-sports merchants offering clearance prices on brand-new gear, according to the MSEF.
    The action begins at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, with a seller/merchandise check-in. An early-bird sale runs from 8 to 10 p.m. that night.
Sales continue Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday's close-out will see merchandise discounted up to 50 percent off the regular swap-meet price.
Buyers and sellers looking for more details can check the MSEF website at www.msefskier.com or call Johnson at 541-621-4699.
The nonprofit foundation uses proceeds from the swap to help make skiing affordable for high-school students in Jackson and Josephine counties. The foundation organizes competitive skiing and snowboarding events for high-school students as well as providing coaching.
