Clothes, housewares top family's wish list, but a few toys would be appreciated, too

Warm blankets, clothes, dishes, pots and pans and a few toys. These are the basic needs of single mother Julie and her five children, which range in age from 18 months to 13 years.

When Julie's ex-boyfriend realized her intention to leave with the children, he beat her so severely she lost the complete use of one eye and is legally blind in the other.

She continues to experience excruciatingly painful headaches and other long-term physical effects of the domestic violence.

Despite her disability and challenges, Julie is determined to create a happy, safe and loving home for her children.

They currently live in transitional housing while she works hard to get her family's life back on track.

Because Julie is blind, she cannot drive and her family walks everywhere.

The children are growing quickly and do not have any rain gear, winter clothing, jackets or shoes that fit properly. Julie does not have a stroller to push the babies. When the family walks to the grocery store or Laundromat, the older children hold the two babies and everyone pitches in to carry what they can.

Julie and her family would appreciate a double stroller and an umbrella. Because Julie's family members are starting over from scratch, they do not yet have any sheets or other bedding and do not have enough blankets.

They also need pots, pans, dishes, silverware and cooking utensils. Julie said that the family is especially in need of socks and underwear.

Eva, Julie's 13-year-old, loves anything to do with Taylor Swift and the "Twilight" series.

Eleven-year-old Jackson likes sports-related hats and clothes; his favorite team is the Oregon Ducks.

Kaylee, 4, loves Barbies, baby dolls and princesses. Two-and-a-half-year-old Peyton and 18-month-old Reagan both love to play with baby dolls and baby doll accessories.
