Red Cross, Girl Scoutsteam up for blood drive

The American Red Cross and the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington Council Inc. are teaming up for the Girls Save Lives Blood Drive.

The blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Girl Scouts Service Center auditorium, 2001 N. Keene Way, Medford.

Girl Scouts in the Medford area can earn a special patch by bringing an adult who is eligible to donate blood. While donors are giving blood, Girl Scouts can participate in fun activities and learn about blood donation.

Blood donors must be at least 16 years old and meet Red Cross requirements. Adults can register by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS and identifying that they are attending the Girl Scout drive. For more information, see www.redcrossblood.org.

Asante Health System seeks volunteers at two hospitals

Asante Health System needs volunteers at Rogue Valley Medical Center and Three Rivers Community Hospital.

There are opportunities to serve throughout the week, including some evenings and weekends, but the greatest need is on weekdays. Volunteer opportunities include greeting and assisting patients and visitors, escorting patients, courtesy blood pressure screening, providing spiritual support and helping customers in the gift shop. No experience is necessary and training is provided.

La Clinica launches new website, Facebook page

La Clinica, a group of nonprofit community health centers based in Medford, has launched a new website and a Facebook page.

The address of the expanded site is http://laclinicahealth.org. It includes information about La Clinica's four health centers, five school-based clinics and a host of outreach programs. Patients can learn about La Clinica's medical staff and range of services. Prospective employees can check job listings, and people who want to donate to the organization can do so electronically.

Find the new Facebook page by going to http://facebook.com and searching "La Clinica." The page will let friends know about news and projects, including the development of a dental clinic due to open in east Medford in 2012.

Founded in 1988 to serve the primary and preventive care needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Jackson County, La Clinica now serves every member of the community regardless of ability to pay, and charges on a sliding-scale basis for the uninsured.

Students, mentors offer artwork for sale Saturday

The Studio at Living Opportunities will hold an art sale from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at 32 S. Central Ave., Medford, across the street from the Craterian box office.

Artwork, acoustic music and complimentary refreshments will be provided by Medford students and their mentors, and all proceeds go to The Studio. Come see The Studio's brand new gallery location and show your support for Medford students and Living Opportunities, coming together to help promote individuality, creativity and independence for artists with disabilities.
